OOC Note: I do not and will not ever register my Thoroughbreds under the current registry rules. I think it is unfair to cage Thoroughbred breeders' imaginations, creativity, and fun by limiting the number of horses of a certain color that can be registered. I play the Sims to relax and have fun, not to try to interact with other players and community features only to find members of that community trying to put up boundaries against me in my limited time for fun. I was sorely disappointed and greatly discouraged to find that my very first and favorite Sims 3 Pets creation would not be able to be registered in the community because of a ridiculous rule that does not exist in real life.
The Grounds of Ashby Stud
The original Ashby Stud has been in the Ashby family for seven generations, and is still in the french countryside near Paris serving the needs of it's home village for horses to plow the fields for local wineries. The founder and his sons bred Boulonnais at first, until the horse racing bug found and bit their sleepy little town and they split the farm between work and pleasure. When the family branched out to America in more recent years, They decided to leave the horse life behind. Alas, the first child born in the new world grew up wanting nothing more than to have horses. When she married into a world of fast horses and big money, she decided that she would carry on the traditional occupation of her family. An old breeding farm near Paris(Kentucky) was purchased, as well as several adjoining plots of pasture land, and construction began immediately. It became home to horses once again just a couple years ago and is now a thriving equine paradise.
Training Barn
Aerial view of the barn with paddocks and courtyard with fountain
A brick wall encases the front of the property, impenetrable except for the iron gate.
The four pathways from the barn isles to the courtyard are lined with apple trees, their purpose to provide treats for the horses and make the occasional pie or batch of preserves.
The fountain at the center of the courtyard is bordered by alternating purple and gold flowering shrubs, to reflect the colors of the Ashby family crest. Purple and gold with green accents are the Stud's original silk colors, a tradition which Rosa has kept.
The four paddocks, grassed with the highest quality pasture mix, are kept meticulously groomed at all times, thus providing the perfect turnout for recently retired racehorses at the top of their game and pregnant broodies alike.
The barn isles are open and breezy, never making the horses feel claustrophobic.
The spacious loose box stalls are kept stocked with fresh high quality hay, clean shavings, and a regularly cleaned automatic watering system. The barn interiors are also painted white to give the illusion of a more open space, again reducing the feeling of being hemmed in tight for the more nervous horses.
There are four wash stalls, two nestled side by side in both corners of the barn. Each side has it's own hose, water heater, drain, and supplies. They are constructed in such a manner that if your horse spooks while in the stall, you can easily escape harm's way by ducking through the fence.
